The role:
The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will be a part of a remote cloud engineering team.
This role will support the design and implementation of highly available and secure core cloud components and be responsible for installation/configuration, operation and maintenance of cloud systems, including virtual hardware, SaaS solutions, OS, and related cloud infrastructure.
The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer supports the company’s cloud infrastructure and ensures that all systems and procedures adhere to organizational standards and will document critical design and configuration details to support enterprise cloud initiatives. In addition, this role will work within the technology organization to ensure that operating systems, configuration, infrastructure & processes maintain the highest level of reliability, performance, and agility.

Essential job functions:
● Design, build, and maintain core infrastructure components that will be used by software engineering teams.
● Design and build infrastructure & systems that provide high levels of scalability, reliability, and performance, while balancing security, maintainability and operational excellence.
● Provide engineering expertise, direction and assistance to cloud teams.
● Work with other cloud teams strategies for deployment of new cloud technology implementations, monitoring and optimization of existing equipment.
● Develop, document, and communicate plans for investing in systems architecture, including analysis of cost reduction opportunities.
● Interface across teams to codify and reliably test infrastructure as part of SDLC.
● Actively participate in code and configuration reviews.
● Craft comprehensive and clearly explained designs, playbooks, and documentation, for consumption by teammates and the larger engineering organization.
● Improve operational efficiency through automation and deployment or development of new tools.
● Be proactive in performance & availability monitoring; provide remediations for systemic issues.
● Actively participate in on-call duties.
● Work as a team on escalations, resolving critical issues that impact our high SLA production systems
● Implement cloud governance and standards.
● Conduct research on emerging technologies in support of systems development efforts and recommend technologies that will increase cost effectiveness and systems flexibility.
● Design and implement High Availability and Disaster Recovery strategies for AWS platform.
● Implement effective monitoring, support systems & procedures to ensure system stability & scalability.
● Improving infrastructure operations through better use of monitoring, cloud coding and scripting best practices.
● Document the company’s existing systems architecture and technology portfolio; make recommendations for improvements and/or alternatives.
● Review new and existing systems design projects and procurement or outsourcing plans for compliance with standards and architectural plans.
● Confer with end-users, clients, or senior management to define business requirements for complex systems and infrastructure development.
● Develop and execute test plans to check infrastructure and systems technical performance. Report on findings and make recommendations for improvement.
● Develop and manage a systems capacity plan.
● Provide guidance to junior members of the team.

Requirements:
● 3+ years of relevant, hands-on cloud engineering experience.
● Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical experience.
● Proven experience in working with and supporting AWS infrastructure via IAC.
● Strong background implementing HA and DR strategies in AWS.
● Strong knowledge of Security, Identity and Compliance in AWS.
● You have experience with SRE best practices, including working with a production environment with high uptime requirements and measurable SLAs.
● You are familiar with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
● Proven project planning and management experience.
● Good knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
● Superior written and oral communication skills.
● Excellent architecture and technical support documentation skills.
● Strong interpersonal and consultative skills.
● Ability to conduct research into emerging technologies and trends, standards, and products as needed.
● Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
● Able to prioritize and execute tasks.
● Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
